Lauren Carmen is a costume designer based in NYC who comes to costume from a background as a professional ballet dancer. Having earned her MFA in costume design from NYU Tisch’s Department of Design for Stage and Film and her BFA in Ballet Pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma, Lauren especially loves working on projects with a sense of whimsy or beauty.
Recent highlights include costume designing the off-Broadway play, Revolution; the operas La Vida Breve, Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Orfeo ed Euridice with The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle (NC); and having films she costume designed premiere and win awards at the Tribeca Film Festival (2023, 2025). Recent costume designs for dance companies have appeared or will appear onstage at New York City Center, The Joyce, The Auditorium Theater (Chicago), Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Fire Island Dance Festival, Battery Dance Festival, Dance Canvas (Atlanta) and more. Lauren currently works as the Resident Costume Designer for Marymount Manhattan College’s Dance Department, Skyla Schreter Dance Company, and the newly formed Renversons Dance.
Lauren teaches costume design and construction classes at Marymount Manhattan College, has taught as Adjunct Faculty at Pace University, and guest teaches costume design and designing for dance at NYU Tisch, as well as moonlighting dancing in professional ballet productions around NYC.
